MyBioSource.com's NEFL Antibody is a Mouse monoclonal antibody. The NEFL Antibody was generated using NEFL, and neurofilament light as the antigen. It reacts with Human. This antibody has been shown to work in applications such as: ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Immunocytochemistry, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry, and Western Blot.

Description

Description: Neurofilaments are type IV intermediate filament heteropolymers composed of light, medium, and heavy chains. Neurofilaments comprise the axoskeleton and they functionally maintain the neuronal caliber. They may also play a role in intracellular transport to axons and dendrites. This gene encodes the light chain neurofilament protein. Mutations in this gene cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease types 1F (CMT1F) and 2E (CMT2E), disorders of the peripheral nervous system that are characterized by distinct neuropathies. A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome Y.
Function: Neurofilaments usually contain three intermediate filament proteins: L, M, and H which are involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber.
Subunit Structure: Interacts with ARHGEF28. Interacts with TRIM2.
Post-translational Modifications: O-glycosylated. Phosphorylated in the head and rod regions by the PKC kinase PKN1, leading to the inhibition of polymerization. Ubiquitinated in the presence of TRIM2 and UBE2D1.
Similarity: The extra mass and high charge density that distinguish the neurofilament proteins from all other intermediate filament proteins are due to the tailpiece extensions. This region may form a charged scaffolding structure suitable for interaction with other neuronal components or ions. Belongs to the intermediate filament family
